Two pages from my “Inner Excavation” journal. Inspired by working through the book, “Inner Excavation, Explore Your Self Through Photography, Poetry and Mixed Media” by Liz Lamoreux. (www.lizlamoreux.com) I carried my camera wherever I went to record the green in my life, printed my favorites and used a 2 inch square punch to isolate the part of the photo I liked best. Next I arranged them on my journal pages that had an already prepared fairly neutral background. Since the small 2 inch photos are somewhat abstract I also inserted a tag on the edge of the page that could be pulled out (green ribbon attached) for a key to what it was and where photo was taken.
The great thing about an exercise like this is it really forces you to look closely at the subject and to choose carefully what to include and what to leave out in a small composition.
