Swatches Art Journal

Having fun making my little 5 x 7 Swatches art journal in Kelly Kilmer’s class.  http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oWZy90YDhdg/UUd11sBvp_I/AAAAAAAAtGo/zn4MeCZxYQc/s1600/attachments_2013_03_18.jpg

Every week in my e-mail she sends 7 collage prompts and templates along with a list of things to try in the collage.  At first it was a little overwhelming but now that I’ve done 7 and I’m starting on my next week of collages it’s all starting to flow.

In addition to the weekly e-mail package I received some detailed instructions on how to make the journals we’re using.  I bound about 10 sheets of 10 x 7 papers (folded) together for the signature and for the cover used the cardboard from a cereal box that I covered with gesso using a brayer to leave some nice texture.  A little bit of a watercolor wash once the gesso dried gave the cover some interest.  Decorative tape on the spine and around the edges finished it off.

The prompt for this first page was, “What do I expect to get from this journal?”  Doesn’t this look like a ton of fun!

Drink it all in....

Drink it all in….

About artsynaturenut

I'm a creative warrior constantly fighting my battle with my muse against that nasty critic. I love to paint and do mixed media work either on the canvas or with art journals. I'll dabble in just about everything--bookmaking, photography, writing, etc. and get excited about combining them. Hence the mixed media!

I don’t know why but your page doesn’t show up in my stream. I unfollow you then follow you again. It might help.
